Step 1: Gather Leaves

Go outside and gather a bunch of colorful leaves to make your crown. I picked up a variety of leaves in different colors and sizes. The large leaves were helpful to make a base and the smaller leaves were added towards the end, since I wanted those to stand out more.

Step 2: Weave the Leaf Stems

Once you have gathered your leaves, you’ll begin assembling the base of your leaf crown. With one leaf stem, I poked a hole through a second leaf and then weaved the stem through. You’ll continue to do this until you’ve made a full circle and have your leaf crown base. It’s easier to use larger leafs for this step and you can use tape to better secure your weaves. I carefully placed the leaf crown base on my head during this step just to make sure it fit how I wanted.

Step 3: Add More Leaves

The final step is to continue weaving leaves into the base of your crown. For a fuller looking crown, keep on adding leaves around the crown base until you’re satisfied. I focused on adding more leaves to the front and side of my crown and left the back simple. If needed, add tape in places where the stems weave through to help keep your crown together. You can really go all out and add as many leaves as you want. Just have fun with it!

Ta da! That’s it! I hope you enjoyed this super simple fall DIY to celebrate the changing of seasons.

Time to Complete DIY

This DIY took me under 2 hours to complete. This time includes gathering all of the leaves outside to wearing my final leaf crown masterpiece.

I recommend wearing and taking photos of your leaf crown the same day you make it. After awhile, the leaves will start to dry, curl up, and become very fragile. After you’re done having fun with your leaf crown, make sure to take it apart and dispose of the tape. Then, return the leafs back outside or add them to your compost bin.
