Making solid perfume is a simple, summer craft that is so much fun! It’s a perfect DIY for a bridal shower, bachelorette activity, birthday party, or summer get together.

When I was brainstorming about fun activities for my bachelorette party, I wanted to do something that was unique, cute, and useful. This DIY seashell solid perfume craft was a huge hit and such a fun gift for my friends to take home.

Supplies Needed

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) of beeswax

  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) of sweet almond oil

  • 20 drops of essential oil scent of your choosing

This is for 1 seashell solid perfume. You can increase if you’d rather make a larger batch and then divide it between the group. Just remember, beeswax to almond oil is a 1:1 ratio. We did this method, and then divided the melted beeswax and almond oil mixture into disposable cups and let each person add their 20 drops of scent individually.

Step 1: Choose your solid perfume seashell vessel

I found the cutest seashell trinket boxes on Etsy. There are so many to choose from and they come in a variety of sizes. I bought a bunch for my friends to choose, including a few extra, because I knew we’d want to do more than one scent. Having options is always fun!

If you’re having a beach or mermaid themed party, seashells are the perfect solid perfume vessel. You can easily swap the seashells for something that fits the theme more. Other fun ideas for solid perfume vessels are vintage pill boxes or a locket necklace!

Step 2: Choose your scents

I decided to buy some amazing scents from Makesy. I tried out their fragrance discovery kit, because there were so many scents to choose from. I knew I needed to try several. This was such a great option and so much fun to test them all.

The scents I ordered were:

  • dahlia petals & sandalwood (a fan favorite)

  • creamy oats & honey toast

  • floral tempation & seductive bliss

  • rhubarb & berry cashmere

  • prosecco & pink raspberries

  • santal & black cardamon

  • vanilla gelato & waffle cone

  • dark rose & labdanum

  • peachy bellini & bubbly bliss

  • sicily summer & musk di sole

Since we had so many scents to choose from, we made sure to choose which scents we wanted before melting the beeswax. We knew this would be a tough decision. lol.

Step 3: Melt combined beeswax & almond oil together

Once you have your scents picked out, you’re ready to start melting the beeswax & almond oil together. We used a double boiler method. Heat up water in a sauce pan on the stove. Add your glass measuring cup with your 1:1 ratio of beeswax and almond oil. Bring to a boil and melt.

Step 4: Pour melted beeswax & almond oil into disposable cups

Divide the melted beeswax and almond oil mixture. For this step, we used disposable cups and spoons, because we didn’t want to ruin our nice glasses and spoons with melted beeswax.

Step 5: Add in your scent into beeswax mixture

Add your essential oil scents into the melted beeswax mixture and stir. For a group, we found it easiest for everyone to mix their scents to their liking in their own disposable cup. We did around 20 drops of essential oil, but were also adding more if we wanted a stronger scent.

Step 6: Pour mixture into seashell vessel

Once everything is mixed, pour this mixture straight into your seashell vessel. You’ll need to work quick before the beeswax mixture starts to cool and harden. If it does harden too quickly, you can always pop it into the microwave to remelt before you pour into your seashell.

Step 7: Let Cool

The last step is to allow your solid perfume to cool before use. Give it an hour or 2 and it’ll be ready to use. Just rub a little on your finger and transfer to your wrists, neck, or wherever you’d usually wear perfume. You’ll be smelling heavenly in no time. That’s it!

Time to Complete DIY

This DIY goes very quickly once you have all your materials together. Melting the beeswax only takes a few minutes. Then, you’ll need to work quickly to mix your scent into the melted beeswax and pour into your seashell before the beeswax starts to dry. It dries fast, less than 5 minutes. For your whole solid perfume in your seashell to dry, timing is different depending on seashell size. It can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour to dry fully.
